Carnoustie Golf
Carnoustie golf course is fantastic - but a real challenge - particularly when the wind blows, as it nearly always does.
The course is one of the toughest on the British Open roster and has produced some dramatic finishes to major golf tournaments over the years.
The Barry burn winds its way alongside and accross many of the holes - catching many a wayward shot. American golf course designer Pete Dye has described Carnoustie as one of his favourites and lists it as an inspiration for many of his famous holes at Sawgrass, Crooked Stick and elsewhere.
Carnoustie town now has excellent transport links and a new luxury hotel next to the championship course

A round on the St Andrews Old Course is not going to be cheap - unless you play with a resident of the town who are entitled to play at a huge discount. But you could enjoy a game on one of St Andrew's many other courses. There are a cluster of excellent links courses on the same strip of land as the old course.
You might seek a game at the St Andrews Bay resort that is just on the cliff tops at the edge of town and has two great courses to choose from.
