Is it possible to have an inexpensive or cheap game of golf at St Andrews?
I guess it depends on what your expectations are. A round on the St Andrews Old Course is not going to be cheap - unless you play with a resident of the town who are entitled to play at a huge discount. But you could enjoy a game on one of St Andrew's many other courses. There are a cluster of excellent links courses on the same strip of land as the old course.
You might seek a game at the St Andrews Bay resort that is just on the cliff tops at the edge of town and has two great courses to choose from.
Just a little further away lies Kingsbarns Golf Course and beyond that the excellent courses at the towns of Crail and Elie.
